March Newsletter

With the tournament season almost wrapped up, and the Tournament of Champions approaching rapidly, it’s time for another update!

Board Elections

On May 1-7 we will be electing the 2022-23 Board of Directors.

Any adult high school graduate may run for a Board position. If you considering throwing your hat into the ring, make sure to email our Inspectors of Election at npdl.elections@gmail.com by April 5, 11:59PM (Pacific time). This step is required for everyone who wants to run for the Board.

In your initial Statement of Interest, you won't be officially declaring your candidacy yet. You should, however, list at least one, but no more than three Board positions you are interested in. Your Statement of Interest will be shared with other people who are thinking of running, and you will then have until April 15 to formally declare your candidacy for a specific Board position.

If you know anyone who you think would make for a good NPDL Board member, please send them this link with the details:

Our league rules also require the publication of the meeting attendance summary for each 2021-22 Board member, so here it is.

Meeting of Members

Our Spring meeting of members will be held via Zoom the Sunday of NPDL-TOC - that’s April 10, 12:15-1:45 PM (Pacific time). We encourage all member school representatives to attend.

With voting on legislation now done primarily via Written Ballot, the meeting will instead focus on a broader community discussion. Please contact npdl.board+president@gmail.com if you want to add a discussion item to the meeting agenda.

Written Ballot

Our Spring Voting Period will run May 1-7, concurrently with our Board elections. The Written Ballot will be emailed to all member school representatives.

The ballot will include an omnibus proposal about Board structure. The proposal will be vetted by the Board at its April 5 meeting. If you have comments regarding the proposal or want to request that some provision in the proposal be separated out into a different proposal, please comment on the forum before then.

If you would like to use this opportunity to amend our league rules, click below to read how to submit and vet a Written Ballot proposal:

Voter Roster

Membership registration closed on March 15.

Please review the roster of member school representatives which will be used for the Board elections, Meeting of Members, and Written Ballot. Note that if you are an observer school, upgrading to voting membership is due March 31.

Membership registration for 2022-23 will open June 1, 2022.

Reporting

Be sure to check out the article one of our student correspondents wrote about the history of parli in New York!

Round Recordings

NPDL Fall round recordings are available on our YouTube channel.

We are now hoping to record and publish some of the rounds from the upcoming NPDL Tournament of Champions - but this will take some work.

We are looking for a few volunteers who are available that weekend and can record the rounds assigned to them. NSDA Campus logistics mean that TOC rounds will not be open to observers. But if you have a student who wants to observe some rounds and is willing to record them while they’re at it, we can give them access.

We are also looking for a coach or alum to step up to coordinate the recording and upload logistics.

If interested, please email npdl.board@gmail.com
